Bruiser Bruiser

Bruiser, aka Sendahl Bruiser, is a gorgeous, 4½-year-old red male born October 1, 2004. His sire is WW Time Warp and his dam is Sendahl Kirsten. Bruiser was quite a racer with 106 races on his record beginning in Dubuque, Iowa on June 7, 2006 and ending at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, Texas on December 17, 2008. Of his 106 races 18 were stakes races! Bruiser suffered a torn gracillus muscle in his last race and it was decided he deserved to retire for good. He has healed and is ready for retirement full of long walks and even longer naps.

Bruiser is not cat tolerant but was fostered with a Pug and did well.

Bruiser

Anyone who has been around greyhounds at all knows that they are pretty universally described as "sweet." This is so much a truism that for the most part we refrain from describing any particular greyhound as sweet simply because it adds little to the information about any particular dog.

Nevertheless, after writing many descriptions, I'm finally breaking with my own rule. So here it comes: Bruiser positively exudes sweet. This dog has two loves in his life: people and toys. He will be wherever his people are and often with his head in you lap, even while you are standing. He just wants to be near you. He just wants to please you, and winning praise from his people delights him. The result is that he has proven to be a quick learner. It took one day for him to learn that leads go on for walking only when the hound waits patiently without jumping or wiggling or whining, etc. Actually this is an incredible feat to behold. Bruiser will show enormous excitement about the leads coming out in preparation for walks, but once one dog has a lead on for being quiet, once he is told "wait," he stands still. Very impressive.

Bruiser's other love is toys. If laying his head on a sleeping person's chest fails to awaken them, then squeaking a toy generally does the trick. Squeakies are much prized. Bruiser pretty much figures that any new toy brought into the house is his. Much like families with multiple children, he has taught us to bring more than one new toy home at a time. He loves to carry his toys outdoors, where he tosses them in the air and pounces after them.

Bruiser seems mildly sensitive to thunderstorms. He will pace when it gets noisy, but settle quickly if he can be near one of his people. Our guess is that if he had a closet he could climb into, he might really appreciate that. Unfortunately his current home has no such closet, so a dog bed near a person works well, too.

He loves car rides and rides well, although he shows signs of wanting to be in the front seat, with, of course, his people. More than rides, Bruiser loves his walks. Mostly Bruiser loves anything where he is getting people attention, including getting his toenails Pedi pawed. Even the first time proved not to engender any anxiety.

Like so many greyhounds, Bruiser does have a sensitive digestive tract, so he is being fed a low residue food from the vet. This has worked wonders for him, however.

Bruiser, the lover, is just one of those dogs who is especially easy to love--probably because he shares so much of his love with you.
